Kinetic Muscles Inc. (KMI) was founded in 2001.  The founders identified an unmet need in the field of physical and occupational therapy.  Most therapies available for rehabilitation of stroke survivor at the time were very labor intensive and therefore very expensive.  KMI has developed equipment that is designed to make therapists' jobs easier by making their time with the patients more productive.

2001 - Kinetic Muscles Inc. founded in Tempe, AZ

2003 - First NIH SBIR Phase I SBIR grant to develop The Hand Mentor

2003 - 2003 Filed establishment registration and device listing with FDA, initiated marketing of Hand Mentor

2004 - The Hand Mentor awarded an R&D 100 from R&D Magazine

2004 - KMI wins a second Phase I SBIR grant to expand product development

2004 - The Hand Mentor wins a Medical Design Excellence Award from MDDI

2004 - KMI wins Startup Innovator of the Year from the Governor of AZ

2005 - KMI wins Medical Device Company of the Year from the AZ BioIndustry Assoc.

2005 - KMI wins a Phase II SBIR for Hand Mentor clinical trials

2006 - KMI and Columbia Scientific form a commercialization partnership

2007 - The Hand Mentor is redesigned and launched nationwide.
